First visit? Stay in Midtown West.
For a first three-to-five-night visit, Midtown West offers the most efficient access to Broadway, Rockefeller Center, Fifth Avenue, Grand Central, Central Park South, the Empire State Building and several major subway trunks. Stay around Bryant Park or the eastern Theater District rather than directly on Times Square.

Avoid sleeping near Directly on Times Square, Blocks immediately around Port Authority Bus Terminal, Ludlow, Rivington, Orchard and Stanton streets in the Lower East Side, Far-west Hell's Kitchen or far-west Upper West Side without checking station distance. It is convenient to see once but brings relentless crowds, neon, noise and tourist-oriented dining at the hotel door.
