Negril: Seven Mile Beach and Long Bay
Base · 4–7 nights
Westmoreland’s most useful base: broad sand, reliable swimming, easy food and drink, and enough hotels and tours to work without a car. It is busy and built-up, but it earns its place for a first visit.
Negril West End / the Cliffs
Short stop · 1 night
Choose the cliffs for sea-entry swimming, stronger sunsets, distinctive small hotels and a better dinner-and-drinks scene than the beach strip. Come for the views rather than a sandy beach; Rick’s Café is fun spectacle, not an undiscovered local spot.
Bluefields
Base · 2–4 nights
A low-key fishing-coast base with a public beach and none of Negril’s resort machinery. Stay here when quiet, local beach life and unhurried days matter more than restaurant choice or nightlife.
Belmont
Base · 2 nights
A small, lived-in fishing community southeast of Bluefields, with reggae-history associations and a more village-like rhythm. It works as a quiet coastal stay, not as a checklist stop or a Peter Tosh theme park.
Mayfield Falls and Glenbrook
Short stop · 1 day
The parish’s best antidote to beach inertia: a wet wading hike through river pools, small cascades and shaded greenery. Make it a dedicated guided day with water shoes; it is slippery, physical and not a quick photo stop.
Savanna-la-Mar
Short stop · 0.5 days
Westmoreland’s working parish capital is worth a daytime market and street-life stop, especially while moving between Negril and the south coast. It is practical, hot and busy rather than scenic, so do not use it as a resort overnight.
Roaring River / Petersfield
An inland freshwater detour with a cave and swimming-hole setting, best paired with Savanna-la-Mar on a driver day. Go for a simple river break, not polished facilities or extensive interpretation.
Little Bay and Little London
Short stop · 0.5 days
The rural northwest behind Negril is chiefly useful for Jamwest Adventure Park and a half-day change from the beach. It is an activity zone rather than somewhere to linger independently.
Grange Hill, Frome and the interior
Short stop · 1 day
This is the agricultural, former sugar-country side of Westmoreland: rewarding as a slow drive for travelers interested in everyday inland Jamaica and labor history. There are few formal sights, so treat it as a route through a living landscape.
Seaford Town
A niche inland detour tied to Jamaica’s nineteenth-century German immigrant history. Combine it with an interior drive; it does not justify sacrificing beach time or booking a first-trip overnight.
Straightforward Negril reset
4 nights / 5 daysNegril: Seven Mile Beach and Long Bay (4 nights)
The sensible short break. Use one easy base, take one dedicated day for Mayfield Falls or a boat trip, and spend another evening in Negril West End / the Cliffs. Trying to add the south coast on four nights turns a beach holiday into transfer logistics.
Plan this routeFirst Westmoreland: beach plus the quiet coast
7 nights / 8 daysNegril: Seven Mile Beach and Long Bay (5 nights) → Savanna-la-Mar (half day) → Bluefields (2 nights)
Start with Negril’s beach, restaurants and dependable excursion options, then move south via Savanna-la-Mar for a market or Roaring River detour. Bluefields supplies the contrast: slower days, local fish and a real break from the resort strip. Use a driver for the transfer rather than treating it as a quick taxi hop.
Plan this routeBeach, river and south-coast slow time
10 nights / 11 daysNegril: Seven Mile Beach and Long Bay (6 nights) → Mayfield Falls and Glenbrook (1 full day) → Bluefields (3 nights)
For travelers who want more than beach-bar Negril but do not want to change hotels constantly. Do Mayfield as a dedicated guided day from Negril—return to your base afterward—then shift to Bluefields for the deliberately quiet final stretch. Do not try to cram Mayfield, Savanna-la-Mar and the Bluefields transfer into one day.
Plan this routeThe deeper-cut Westmoreland loop
14 nights / 15 daysNegril: Seven Mile Beach and Long Bay (7 nights) → Little Bay and Little London (half day) → Bluefields (4 nights) → Grange Hill, Frome and the interior (1 full day) → Belmont (2 nights) → Negril West End / the Cliffs (1 night)
This is for repeat visitors and self-directed travelers who value rural texture over a packed attraction list. Keep Negril long enough to actually relax, use Little Bay for an active Jamwest day, then slow down around Bluefields and Belmont. The interior is a driver day through working countryside, not a sightseeing checklist; finish on the cliffs only if the airport transfer timing makes the extra move worthwhile.
