Sogndal Airport, Haukåsen: The nearest practical airport, with scheduled links from Oslo and Bergen. Rent a car at the airport: drive to Hella, take the Hella–Vangsnes car ferry across Sognefjord, then continue to Vikøyri; allow about 2 hours plus ferry waiting. The ferry is normally the sensible shortcut, not an optional scenic detour; regional car-ferry fares are commonly in the NOK 50–100 range, before the cost of the rental. A taxi for this distance is poor value unless several people are sharing it.
Bergen Airport, Flesland: The best international gateway. Rent a car and go via Bergen/Voss and Route 13 over Vikafjellet; plan roughly 3.5–4.5 hours in good conditions, longer in rain, roadworks or mountain weather. A rental car is usually around NOK 1,000–2,000 per day in high season before fuel, tolls and insurance, but it is far more useful here than an airport transfer. Do not assume a same-day public-transport connection will be convenient: buses exist but are sparse and timetable-dependent.
