Sagrada Família is Barcelona’s essential paid sight: the stained-glass nave, Gaudí’s structural imagination and museum make the interior far more rewarding than an exterior photo. It works best when you book an official timed ticket as soon as your date enters the roughly two-month sales window.
Book official timed entry early
Buy online from the official site promptly when your date becomes available (roughly two months ahead), especially for weekends, holidays, first/last slots and all tower tickets; late arrivals are refused.
MoreChoose basic entry for most visits
The €26 adult basic ticket includes the basilica, museum and official audio guide, while the €36 tower upgrade is optional and requires a lift ascent plus a long stair descent.
MoreUse the Marina entrance
Individual timed-ticket holders should enter at the Nativity Façade on Carrer de la Marina, arriving 15–20 minutes early with the named ticket, matching government photo ID and minimal bags.
MoreAllow two unrushed hours
Plan 1½–2 hours for the nave and museum, visit around 9:00–11:00 for a calmer start or late afternoon for warmer stained-glass light, and do not bring luggage because there is no general locker.
MoreBasilica and museum
~120 min · Timed admission; included with standard admission and all main official visitor products.
Nativity or Passion tower
Optional upgrade; choose one tower, ascend by lift and descend by stairs. Not accessible and subject to health, age and weather restrictions.

The Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família is Barcelona’s active Roman Catholic minor basilica and Antoni Gaudí’s monumental, still-evolving expiatory church in Eixample—not Barcelona Cathedral. Construction began on 19 March 1882 under Francisco de Paula del Villar; Gaudí took over in 1883 and made it his life’s work from 1914 until his death in 1926. Funded by donations and visitor income, it was consecrated for worship in 2010 and remains under construction, particularly around the future Glory Façade; its 172.5-metre Tower of Jesus Christ reached exterior completion in 2026. Only the Nativity Façade and crypt are included in UNESCO’s “Works of Antoni Gaudí” listing.
It is Barcelona’s essential paid architectural sight: the real payoff is the nave, where tree-like columns and intensely colored stained glass make Gaudí’s structural imagination tangible. The museum usefully explains the models, geometry and ongoing construction, while the exterior alone cannot convey the building’s scale or light. Skip or limit the visit if you only want a façade photo, strongly dislike timed-entry crowds, are on a tight budget, or cannot manage the tower’s long stair descent; the optional tower is not necessary for a rewarding visit.
Before you go
Yes. Buy online through the official ticket site when your date becomes available, usually about two months ahead. Tickets are nominative, tied to a specific date and entry time, and late arrivals are refused. For weekends, school holidays, first or last slots, and any tower ticket, book promptly rather than relying on same-day availability.
For most independent visitors, choose the €26 basic Sagrada Família ticket: it includes timed basilica and museum entry plus the official app’s audio-guide content. Choose the €30 official guided-tour ticket if you want a guide to explain the symbolism and architecture; the roughly 50-minute tour is only €4 more. Towers are optional: choose the €36 tower ticket, or €40 guided tour plus towers, only if you are comfortable descending a long, narrow stair route and specifically want elevated views.
Do not count on it. The basilica says tickets are online-only, although QR purchase points around the building can sometimes have same-day inventory. If the official calendar is sold out, keep checking official inventory and the official app for released capacity. If you use a third party, buy a clearly specified guided tour with included admission and confirm the exact meeting point, language, tower inclusion and cancellation terms.
Use the official Sagrada Família ticket pages: basic admission is sold at https://sagradafamilia.org/en/web/guest/sagrada-familia-ticket. Official guided and tower products are also sold on sagradafamilia.org.
Arrive 15–20 minutes before the booked time, not an hour early. You still need to pass ticket scanning and security, and may be asked to show the original government photo ID matching the name on the ticket. Have your QR code, ID, charged phone and headphones ready.
Late arrivals are refused. Once you leave the basilica, re-entry is not permitted, so complete the nave, museum and any included route before exiting.
