When to go

Day: Tuesday–Thursday, outside school breaks and holiday weeks.
Time: Arrive at opening for cooler walking and shorter Panda Ridge, Skyfari, and bus lines. · After 3 p.m. on weekdays, when the busiest habitats and transport generally ease. · Use Skyfari East to West after its 10 a.m. opening, weather and operations permitting.
Avoid: Avoid severe-rain or high-heat days if your group struggles with long outdoor hills, and skip days when a must-see habitat or Skyfari is listed closed.

Up-close encounters

Early Morning Walking Tour: Pandas
Limited-capacity paid tour. Buy Zoo admission separately, then reserve this tour through the official Zoo tour listing as soon as your visit date is available; the Zoo does not publish a fixed advance-booking window.
Other limited-capacity tours

Getting around: This is a compact but steep, hilly 100-acre zoo. General admission includes the approximately 35-minute narrated Guided Bus Tour and the Skyfari Aerial Tram. Skyfari normally operates from 10:00 a.m. until Zoo closing, weather and operations permitting; use it east-to-west to avoid a major uphill walk. Accessible routes are marked on the ADA map, and on-call ADA shuttle service is available for mobility-related disabilities. Manual wheelchairs and ECVs are rented near the entrance on a first-come basis.

Conservation: The nonprofit Zoo emphasizes rare and threatened species, animal care, conservation science, botany, and public education across a collection of more than 12,000 animals representing more than 680 species and subspecies.
