Pebble Beach Golf Links is a bucket-list round for golfers who can secure an official tee time and accept the premium cost; non-golfers should treat it as a short scenic Lodge-and-18th-hole stop within 17-Mile Drive, not a freely walkable course visit.
Book lodging-backed golf far ahead
To reserve more than 24 hours ahead, stay at The Lodge at Pebble Beach or The Inn at Spanish Bay and request golf with the room booking; those guests can book up to 18 months ahead, while non-resort guests can reserve only 24 hours ahead if space remains.
MoreBudget $695 before golf extras
The official April 1, 2026–March 31, 2027 green fee is US$695 per golfer, with cart, caddie, gratuity, club rental, meals and transport additional; non-resort cart use is US$60 per person.
MoreUse the gate, not a course entrance
For a scenic visit, enter the 17-Mile Drive road system via Carmel Gate from Carmel or Highway 1 Gate from Monterey, then park at the Visitor Center/Lodge public area for the 18th-hole overlook.
MoreAvoid event-week expectations
June 14–20, 2027 is U.S. Open championship week, including June 17–20 competition, so expect restricted access and event logistics rather than an ordinary visit.
MorePebble Beach Golf Links is an 18-hole, par-72 public resort golf course at 1700 17-Mile Drive in Pebble Beach, on the Monterey Peninsula rather than in Carmel-by-the-Sea. Opened February 22, 1919, it was designed by amateur champions Jack Neville and Douglas Grant to help make Samuel F. B. Morse’s Pebble Beach real-estate development appealing to buyers. Its compact, figure-eight layout puts several holes directly along Pacific cliffs and beaches, especially the celebrated coastal stretch from holes 4 through 10 and the finishing holes 17 and 18. It has hosted six U.S. Opens, the 2023 U.S. Women’s Open, and the annual AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am; it is scheduled to host the U.S. Open again in 2027.
For golfers, it is a genuine pilgrimage course: elite architecture, major-championship history and unusually immediate oceanfront golf, with wind, small greens, bunkers and uneven lies making it far more than a scenic round. Non-golfers can see the 18th hole and Stillwater Cove from the Lodge/Visitor Center area, but cannot freely roam the active course. Skip playing if the US$695 green fee, plus likely cart or caddie and resort costs, would make the experience stressful, or if you want an easygoing, inexpensive municipal-style round.
Before you go
There is no standard admission ticket to view the Lodge/Visitor Center area and the 18th-hole/Stillwater Cove overlook. Most non-golfers enter via 17-Mile Drive and pay its per-vehicle gate fee. Monterey County tourism lists it as US$12 per vehicle; confirm the current amount at the gate. An older official map says the fee may be reimbursed with a qualifying US$35 restaurant purchase, but this should also be confirmed on arrival. 17-Mile Drive is generally open dawn to dusk.
Book through Pebble Beach directly: https://www.pebblebeach.com/golf/pebble-beach-golf-links/ or check availability at https://www.pebblebeach.com/plan-my-trip/preview-availability/Pebble%20Beach%20Golf%20Links. Lodge at Pebble Beach and Inn at Spanish Bay guests can request tee times up to 18 months ahead; Casa Palmero guests up to 12 months ahead, subject to minimum-stay requirements. Non-resort guests can reserve only 24 hours ahead, subject to availability. If your date is unavailable, call resort reservations to ask about cancellations and be flexible on tee time and group size.
For April 1, 2026–March 31, 2027, the official green fee is US$695 per golfer for resort and non-resort guests. Non-resort guests using a cart also pay US$60 per person; a pull cart is US$20. Caddies, gratuities, club rental, lodging, meals and transportation are additional. Source: https://www.pebblebeach.com/ratesajax/rate_table/pb_links/
Possibly, but only after checking in at the pro shop. Permission depends on safety and availability. A companion must ride in a golf cart and pay the applicable cart fee; children under seven may not accompany golfers on course. Do not expect to walk the famous holes independently during play.
Drive through Carmel Gate if coming from Carmel-by-the-Sea, or Highway 1 Gate if coming from Monterey. Go directly to The Lodge/Pebble Beach Visitor Center public area, use the general public lot, visit the center, and walk to the Lodge frontage for the 18th-hole and Stillwater Cove view. Allow 45–90 minutes for this stop, or 3–5 hours if combining it with 17-Mile Drive viewpoints. Do not try to walk through active golf holes.
Use “Pebble Beach Golf Links, 1700 17-Mile Drive, Pebble Beach, CA 93953” for navigation. A car or rideshare is the practical option; there is no useful public-transit stop at the Lodge or course. Monterey-Salinas Transit can reach downtown Carmel, but a taxi or rideshare is then needed for the final segment.
