Free entry: Mackinac Island and Mackinac Island State Park are free to visit: there is no island-entry gate, general-admission ticket, or Michigan Recreation Passport requirement for a walk-on visitor. The state park is open 24 hours daily, year-round. Separate historic sites, museums, transport, rentals, and other services may charge independently. Arnold Transit carries children under 4 free; Shepler's carries children under 5 free, though Shepler's requires a boarding ticket and accompanying adult.

Sold out? No island ticket is needed. For ferry travel, buy directly from Arnold Transit or Shepler's online before departure if possible, then arrive at the dock about 15 minutes early for a sailing you care about. Tickets are flexible rather than assigned to a specific departure; if online tickets are unavailable, buy at the dock and board the next available boat. On peak weekends, festivals, and for the last return ferries, expect lines and allow extra time.
