Newark Liberty International Airport: The sensible airport for Jersey City. Take AirTrain to Newark Airport Rail Station, then an NJ Transit Northeast Corridor or North Jersey Coast Line train one stop to Newark Penn; cross to PATH for Journal Square. Allow 30–45 minutes and roughly $15 total. For Grove Street, Newport or Exchange Place, change at Journal Square. A cab is quicker only when you have a group and no traffic; it is not the default bargain.
John F. Kennedy International Airport: Avoid the cross-borough taxi unless convenience matters more than money. Take AirTrain to Jamaica, the E subway to World Trade Center, then PATH to Exchange Place, Grove Street or Journal Square. Expect 80–100 minutes with luggage and about $15 in AirTrain, subway and PATH fares. It is a perfectly workable route, but EWR is much easier for a Jersey City stay.
LaGuardia Airport: Take the free Q70 LaGuardia Link to Jackson Hts–Roosevelt Ave, board the E train to World Trade Center, then transfer to PATH. Budget 75–100 minutes and about $6 for subway plus PATH. This is cheaper than a car, but it is a bad arrival route with oversized luggage or after a delayed flight.
Newark Penn Station: Amtrak and NJ Transit arrivals should use PATH. Newark-to-Journal Square is about 25 minutes; for downtown Jersey City, change at Journal Square for Grove Street/Newport or continue via World Trade Center and backtrack only if that is faster for your destination. PATH is the useful connection, not a taxi.
Hoboken Terminal: For Newport and the northern downtown edge, take PATH one stop to Newport; for Exchange Place, use the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail south. Allow about 10–20 minutes depending on the final stop. Hoboken is close, but it is not walkable to most Jersey City hotels with bags.
New York Penn Station / Port Authority Bus Terminal: From New York Penn, walk to 33 St PATH and take PATH toward Journal Square—roughly 25–35 minutes to Grove Street/Journal Square, plus the walk. From Port Authority, NJ Transit buses 119 or 125 run to Journal Square, but traffic through the Lincoln Tunnel makes PATH the more predictable choice when you can reach it.
